New York, NY – º£½ÇÂÒÂ× of Health and Science is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Kamila Barnes, DNP, FNP-C, RN, FADLN, FNYAM, as Associate Dean for Entry into Nursing Practice. Dr. Barnes, a distinguished health care leader, clinician, educator, and advocate with nearly two decades of nursing experience, is widely recognized in the New York City nursing community for her pioneering work addressing health disparities and advancing maternal-child health.

Dr. Barnes brings robust academic and professional credentials to the college, including a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Rochester School of Nursing, and extensive clinical experience as a board-certified family nurse practitioner. She has also held leadership roles in nursing education, overseeing undergraduate and graduate nursing programs, which positions her to profoundly influence the development of new nurses entering the profession.

A passionate maternal health advocate, Dr. Barnes currently serves as National Chair of the ’s . Her scholarly work highlights critical issues related to psychosocial support for teen mothers and the systemic disparities impacting maternal and child health outcomes. Dr. Barnes is a vocal proponent of policy initiatives such as the , advocating for legislative solutions to reduce preventable pregnancy-related deaths.

Dr. Barnes is also a Distinguished Fellow of the National Black Nurses Association’s Academy of Diversity Leaders in Nursing and a Fellow of the , amongst many other awards and recognitions over a storied career. In addition to her academic and advocacy achievements, she is the founder and owner of , LLC, dedicated to educating healthcare leaders and promoting best practices within communities.
